St Saviour

St Saviour is Jersey's second largest parish and the large, sprawling parish houses much of St Helier's overspill. Mainly an urban parish, the Jersey Evening Post and Jersey Dairy are just two of the large employers located in St Saviour.

The Government House (residence of Jersey's Lieutenant Governor), is situated next to St Saviour's hill and an interesting building to admire. In St Saviour you'll find the burial place of one Jersey's most famous daughters, Emilie Charlotte le Breton - better known as Lillie Langtry who is linked with the near-by Parish Church, which features a distinctive square tower.

There are many historic attractions to admire around St Saviour. La Hongue Bie is one of these - an impressive prehistoric site dating back to Neolithic times. Situated in rural Grouville, on the borders of St Saviour, the oldest part of the site is the passage-grave and was built by Jersey's first farming community as a sacred place and burial chamber. The grave is covered by a 12-metre high mound, and two medieval chapels top the mound. Dominating the area for over 6,000 years, La Hougue Bie also houses Jersey's archaeology and geology galleries and an underground German bunker.
