Highlands Hotel
"Lovely hotel, superb location"

This hotel is superbly positioned in an iconic Jersey location- just a few minutes walk from La Corbiere lighthouse. I'm not sure how recently this hotel was refurbished, but everything seems very fresh, new and spotlessly clean. There is a lovely seaside theme running through the hotel. The restaurant menu is quite narrow but changed daily and the food is very good quality and served quickly. The rates for this hotel were very reasonable for high season. Check in was quick, perhaps a little too quick. I was told what time they would be serving food til, but it would have been nice to be given more information about the hotel. For example, on the opposite side of the hotel from my room was a delightful circular lounge overlooking the cliffs and sea, but I was left to find this myself. There was also a small gym, but I'm not sure if this was for guest's use. Also, I wasn't sure if you could sit in the bar and have a glass of wine or whether the bar was just for serving drinks with meals. This confusion though may be my fault. On the plane over, I sat next to a local who told me that the hotel was a Christian hotel that didn't serve alcohol. This was clearly NOT the case, but it did make me wary of buying alcohol without a meal. There is a lovely terrace to sit out on that overlooked the sea from its cliff top location with a small outdoor swimming pool. I had surgery 6 days before my visit and if someone had offered to help carry my bag to my room, I would have gladly accepted. However this offer was not forthcoming on check in. Once I got my bag to the room, I read the hotel info and it was clear that I could have asked for help if required, but by then it was a bit late. My single room was small but had everything I needed. It was on the side of the hotel, so not much of a view, but very reasonably priced. One night it was slightly noisy, with people coming and going, parking in the service lane below, but nothing that kept me awake for long. If you have mobility issues let them know on booking. There did appear to be some ground floor rooms, but the upper floor, although served by a lift, which I found after a couple of days, still has a few steps up and down along one of the corridors. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel and the buses seemed pretty regular. Restaurant staff were very friendly and efficient. My room, like the rest of the hotel was fresh and clean. I loved the seaside fabric that the blind and cushion was made of. I would definitely recommend this hotel, just make sure you ask all the questions you need to in order to make the most of it.
