Occupation Tapestry in St Helier

The highly-acclaimed Occupation Tapestry was the Island's largest community art project, created by the people of Jersey in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation. Housed in a converted nineteenth century quayside warehouse next to the Maritime Museum, The Tapestry tells the story of the people who lived through the German Occupation during the Second World War.

Consisting of twelve panels, one per Jersey parish, it is made up of 7,500,000 stitches and took approximately 30,000 hours to produce. Audio-guides and audio-visual presentations to the tapestry are free on request.

Located next to the Occupation Tapestry is the award-winning Maritime Museum.
